Transparency in Governement

Executive sessions should be rare and the information withheld from the public for as short a time as possible.  Important discussions and decision should be in an open meeting.

Fees

Fees should be reasonable and only used to cover the cost of a specific service. I will end the practice of using fees to generate free cash rather than to cover the cost of a specific service. Fees should never be an end run around taxation limits.

Property Taxes

The levy limit is just that - a limit.  I will not support taxing the residents of Danvers to absolute max every year.  I will not support new taxes such as the Community Preservation Act - and end run around the limits.

Schools

I support our Danvers Public Schools and that means supporting our Students and Teachers.  I support budgets which improve student learning and outcomes for students of all learning needs. I will not support growing administrative overhead.

Voc Tech

I support public education for all students - wherever the best place is for them to learn.  I will not participate in the annual practice of berating the administration of North Shore Voc Tech for the cost of sending students to the school that their families think works best for them.

The Importance of Local Government

Local government does some of the most important governmental functions that can be done. Local government educates our kids, responds when we're sick or injured, keeps our town clean, and creates community spaces like parks and playgrounds.  These things are worth doing and they're worth doing well.

Civility

Civility in local politics is important. The people that serve on committees and boards in town are volunteers or paid a modest stipend. The people on the boards and committees, and the people who come before them should strive to communicate with respect.
